Inspections provide photographic evidence and detailed measurements of crash deformation. This is critical for documenting a vehicle or watercraft’s post-crash physical condition used in the Accident Reconstruction process. Measurements are collected using state-of-the-art laser scanners that provide detailed high-precision 3D measurements of complex crash deformations to create a “point cloud” data consisting of millions of scan points.
Using point cloud data, engineers develop detailed 3D models for analysis of the subject and an undamaged (exemplar) vehicles or watercraft. A comparison between models provides damage profiles for deformation analysis. 3D models of vehicles involved in a crash are used to establish impact orientation and engagement between vehicles that can be analyzed from various vantage points. Additionally, crash and exemplar scan data are used to create crash reconstruction diagrams and animations to simulate the actual crash event.
