Site inspections provide an overall and detailed view of accident locations for reconstruction analyses. DRE engineers document an accident site topography with photographs and 3-dimensional (3D) measurements using a FARO Focus3D Laser Scanner and/or Leica Total Station. This accident site data is used with computer software to create scaled scene drawings and conduct computer simulations of the accident sequence. Scene 3D models allow the creation of evidence-based visuals to illustrate the findings of the reconstructed accident events.
Data gathered by DRE at the site of the accident is integrated with police on-scene photographs and measurements, as well as witness testimony. Analysis of physical evidence at the scene, along with vehicle damage characteristics, provide the basis for establishing a vehicle/watercraft position, speed, movement and trajectory before, during and after accident events.
